i love late afternoon when i am making dinner, listening to ingrid michaelson, and he is doing his puzzles. both of us working side-by-side. lost in our own thoughts.

fiddleheads
fiddleheads are a delicious local treat. and there are only here for a short time, like maybe a month. my friend and native nutmegger, libby, introduced them to me a couple of years ago and now i stake out the local markets at the end of april/beginning of may looking for this rare treat. they taste like a mixture of asparagus and artichoke - two of my favorites. we made them for the first time this season the other night (and by we i mean sam), and they were as good i remember. if you're a local, check them out!

more sewing
i made this quilt a few weeks ago for a new little family member who lives all the way in portland oregon. he arrived on valentine's day, but had to wait a bit for his quilt to be completed. luckily he is very patient.
i love the kokka fabric on the back (from sew mama sew). i did wacky diagonal quilted lines on the bottom portion in brown.
as you can see the quilting is not perfectly straight, but it gives it a nice handmade look, which i tend to like more that i like pulling out crooked sewing.

new shoes
i made these little shoes for a friends of mine who just had her second babe. I used this pattern and they was super simple and i just love how they turned out. i am excited to make a few pairs for my little one before she makes her debut in july.

easter sewing
i made calvin a pair of pants for easter. this was my first pants making experience ever. i used the method in the the creative family and they was super easy! they only took me about 2 1/2 hours total to make. i love how they turned out.
here is calvin's easter basket. my step-mom got the super cute basket. i filled it with a book about spring, the red balloon movie, stickers, a bit of candy and the pants.

april?
i have been trying to savor each and every minute with calvin as my only child. he is going through a very agreeable phase right now. for the most part he is happy-go-lucky and wants to participate in everything around the house - from cooking to dishes to, his favorite, fixing things. his language is blossoming... the other day out of the blue he said "mommy i love you so much"... i held back tears as he wrapped his little chubby arms around my neck. that boy...
i will share some sewing and knitting soon. happy easter!
